Explore Stone Town's intriguing alleyways and relax on the beach -enjoy the Indian Ocean at its best.
DAYS 35 to 42:
Arusha, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Nairobi
Returning to the mainland we drive north to Arusha catching a glimpse of Mt. Kilimanjaro en route. In Arusha, shop for curios, visit the snake enclosure and a local Maasai village. We switch to 4x4s to explore the Serengeti National Park, Olduvai Gorge and Ngorongoro Crater. Departing Nairobi we travel to the semi-arid Samburu where we game-drive in search of giraffe, oryx, baboon, dik dik, Somali ostrich and the rare gerenuk. We continue to lakes Baringo, Bogoria and Nakuru. Nakuru in particular, is known for game-viewing (especially birds). We continue to the Masai Mara. Camping near the reserve we game drive in search of the 'Big Five'. We then cross back over the Rift Valley and make our way back to Nairobi for a night.
DAYS 50 to 55:
Lake Naivasha, Jinja, Kampala
Leaving Nairobi we drive to Naivasha and Nakuru and continue to Jinja. Various activities are available here including rafting, walks and village visits. We then move on to Kampala for a day in Uganda's capital.
DAYS 56 to 61:
Gorilla Trek, Kampala
We enter the forests of SW Uganda, home to some half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Guides lead us on trek through jungle. It can be hard going at times but the effort is forgotten when you come face to face with the gorillas. Our one-hour 'audience' is a memory that will remain with you for many years. Groups are kept small to minimise the human impact and we may (therefore) spend several days here in order for everyone to complete the trek. Forest walks and community visits can be taken in the area when not trekking. Finally, we drive back to Kampala and the end of our tour.
