41 Day Cape to Kenya Overland Tour
Get ready for an exciting African overland tour full of fantastic game viewing, awe-inspiring scenery and fascinating local cultures. Experience six weeks crammed full of adventure, from a dramatic sunrise over the Sossusvlei Desert to the cultural melting pot of Zanzibar, while travelling between two of Africa's most prominent cities. Discover the beauty of the Tanzanian highlands, go tracking with the San Bushmen and admire the sheer might of Victoria Falls on the way from Cape Town to Kenya.
Itinerary
DAYS 1 to 7: Cape Town, Fish River Canyon, Swakopmund
We begin our safari with a township tour in cosmopolitan Cape Town. We then trave north to Namibia's border and camp beside the beautiful Orange (Gariep) River. In Namibia we enjoy awesome views over the dramatic Fish River Canyon and climb the world's highest dunes in the Namib Naukluft Park. We relax for a few days and enjoy adventure activities on offer in the coastal town of Swakopmund - try skydiving, quadbiking or just soak up the atmosphere in one of Swakopmund's many fine cafes.
DAYS 8 to 12: Cape Cross, Etosha National Park
Travelling north towards the Skeleton Coast we visit the Cape Cross Seal Colony, home to some 80,000 seals! We continue through Damaraland and camp amongst the eerie rock formations at Spitzkoppe before arriving in Etosha National Park to glimpse Namibia's wildlife drinking at its year-round waterholes. Heading into Botswana we then take a cultural bushman walk to learn about life in the Kalahari.
DAYS 13 to 15: Okavango Delta
We embark on an exciting wilderness experience, camping amongst the tranquil islands and watery channels of the Okavango Delta. By day we game view on foot and from our relaxing mokoro canoes.Camping in Africa is a unique experience and at night, with nothing but the nocturnal sounds of the African bush, it offers a wonderful opportunity to be at one with nature.
DAYS 16 to 21: Chobe National Park, Livingstone
Continuing to Chobe National Park, we have the opportunity to game drive amidst beautiful scenery and relax on a sunset Fish Eagle River Cruise. We may spot many of the elephants for which Chobe is famous, as well as hippo and birdlife. From Chobe we cross into Zambia and arrive at our camp on the banks of the Zambezi, near Livingstone. We visit thundering Victoria Falls and take time out to enjoy this, Africa's 'Adventure Capital'. Optional activities here include white water rafting, bungy-jumping, scenic flights and elephant back safaris!
DAYS 22 to 34: Kafue River, Lake Malawi, Zanzibar
From Livingstone we continue north pausing at the Kafue River for a cruise and visit to local village. Continue through Lusaka to Lake Malawi for a day or two on the beach. There's also the opportunity to meet the Malawian people, some of the friendliest in Africa, on a village walk. Crossing the border into Tazania we hit the coast and the bustling capital Dar es Salaam, via Mikumi National Park. We cross by ferry to exotic Zanzibar, explore the intriguing alleyways of the old Stone Town and relax on the northern beaches, enjoying the Indian Ocean at its best.
DAYS 35 to 41: Arusha, Serengeti Plains, Nairobi
Returning to 'Dar' we travel north towards Tanzania's safari capital, Arusha. On the way, we may glimpse the snow-peaked tip of magnificent Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. In Arusha, shop for East African curios, visit a snake park, and meet the people of a Masai village. We then jump into 4x4s to explore the Serengeti National Park, Olduvai Gorge and Ngorongoro Crater. The Serengeti and Ngorongoro are two of the best game reserves in Africa and promise spectacular scenery, remote camping, and plenty of exciting wildife encounters. We return to Arusha before crossing into Kenya and finishing our journey in Nairobi, Kenya's vibrant capital.
